We have lived in this house 22 years. Gardens are mature and much different than what I envisioned years ago. The biggest determining factor has been what plant is deer resistant. Some years, NOTHING is deer resistant. It was a difficult winter, and the deer chomped on my rhododendrens for the first time. One is nearly moribund, the other will take time to recover. The question is-should I dig up the nearly dead rhodo or give it a chance to recover. It looks like crap, but is not in a prominent place.
